The 10th annual Sadako Peace Day will be observed by the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation and La Casa de Maria Retreat Center, 5-6 p.m. at the Sadako Peace Garden. The garden is located on Casa de Maria’s 800 El Bosque Rd. campus, and the ceremony will commemorate the 59th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. SATURDAY, Aug. 7

Music of Faure, Rachmaninoff and Mozart will be featured at the matinee program of the Music Club of Santa Barbara, at 3 p.m. in the Faulkner Gallery of he downtown Public Library, 40 E. Anapamu St. Admission is free and the concert, which is presented as a memorial to Matilda Gilbert, a longtime club supporter, is wheelchair-accessible.

The Art Den at 416 C Anacapa St. presents new paintings by Peter Pierce, Charlie Clingman, Tyler Tomblim, Aubrey Falk, Pete Forbes and Jeff Riley at a 6 p.m. reception. Bill Wallace, Goleta veterinarian and former Santa Barbara County supervisor, will be honored with a trail named for him in the El Capitan Ranch backcountry, starting today with docent-led hikes. El Capitan State Park and El Capitan Canyon Campground are co-sponsoring weekly tours of the trail, which winds through the 2,500 acres. For details, call 733-1303.

SUNDAY, Aug. 8

The Prime Time Band, accomplished musicians in the 50-plus age range directed by J.B. Vander Ark, will perform a slice of Americana (Gershwin, pop tunes, marches, movie themes) at Stow House, 304 N. Los Carneros Rd., at 3 p.m.

A free concert for Fiesta at the Courthouse Sunken Gardens will begin at 3:30 p.m., with the West Coast Symphony, conducted by Christopher Story VI, and the West Coast Ballet. Selections will include William T. Spiller at the piano in Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto, Excerpts from Tchaikovskky’s Symphony No. 6, Brahms’ Symphony No. 3 in F major and Ravel’s "Bolero."

Join the Volunteer Crew for the Butterflies Alive! summer show at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.
