Old Town awaits hotel, condos

With only a little construction left, two new developments in Old Town could soon signal the start of the neighborhood’s revitalization.

The Old Town Inn, a 98-room hotel at 5665 Hollister Ave. between the Goleta Community Center and the Toyota dealership, and Willow Creek Townhomes, a 37-unit condominium complex located at the rear of the hotel, were both approved by the City Council in 2004 and are scheduled to complete construction by summer.

City officials predict that the hotel will bring in much-needed revenue to the city in transient occupancy taxes, as well as funds associated with its commercial space.
The townhomes, meanwhile, will do something to ease the city’s housing crunch. Willow Creek Townhomes will be accepting applications from potential buyers in June.
The locations of both of these projects in Old Town Goleta are expected bring economic revitalization to an old and somewhat shabby section of the city, which is subject to flooding.

Yardi drops housing plans

Plans to build worker housing in its proposed new building along South Fairview Avenue have been scrapped by software company Yardi Systems Inc.
Yardi’s application to extend its development agreement with the city was withdrawn when it was determined that part of the housing would be located in a floodplain.
