
Next week belongs to the Center StageThe Center Stage Theater in the Paseo Nuevo Mall in downtown Santa Barbara is the venue of virtually every performance event in the coming week-unless, like the PCPA production of Steve Martin’s “Picasso at the Lapin Agile,” the event has already opened.
At 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, the Center Stage will host “Rhythm In Motion,” a night of multicultural music and dance by local choreographers. The show, which is a fundraiser for Capoeira Sul da Bahia’s Low-Income Children’s Project, will feature Brazilian dance, Capoeira, Flamenco, Jazz, Maculele, Pentjak-Silat, Forro, and more, with choreographers and musicians including Capoeira Sul da Bahia, M&I Dance Company, Panzumo, Joanna Nobbe, Cherise Richards, Batrick Foster, Randy Tico, Chris Judge, Teak, Rosalina Macisco, Vanessa Isaac, and Kaya. Tickets are $10 general.
At 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, Mamajama Productions presents: “How High Is That Moon?--There’ll be no desafinado,” which is offered as a benefit for the survivors of Hurricane Katrina.
Taking a chance on her lungs, violinist Sally Barr turns vocalist to tender an evening of hot jazz classics with Jim Connolly (Lit Moon Theatre, bass), Bruce Bigenho (piano), Tom Buckner (sax), Nate Birkey (trumpet), Jon Nathan (percussion), plus special guests. Ticket price includes one tasty beverage of your choice. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 general, $12 students & seniors.
Then, on Thursday September 15, the Ranbow Ark Foundation presents “Medicine Of The Rainbow: the Mystical Path To Healing The Ancient (Collective) Broken Heart.” This is billed as “an evening of storytelling, prophecy, and healing.”
Almost all of the ancient indigenous cultures have presaged this period of time--the turning of the ages, 1987-2012--as part of a larger Rainbow Prophecy or evolutionary Path that foretells of a global healing and awakening that will usher in the Fifth World of Peace and Illumination. Join Eco-Spirit healer Heather Foxhall as she shares the Medicine of the Rainbow in order to heal our ancient collective broken heart. Tickets are $26 general.
