Fire Season!

These blackened stumps are all that remain of a substantial portion of the Ellwood Beach seawall, destroyed when a poorly-tended illegal beach bonfire spread to the oil-soaked timbers. In order to put the fire out, fire fighters had to cut out the pilings with saws and throw them into the ocean. The Forest Service’s season of highest fire risk began June 1. Remember - don’t let carelessness lead to the destruction of Goleta’s heritage, natural or historical.
