UCSB researcher awarded Fullbright

Michael McGinnis, lecturer and researcher in environmental policy and administration at UCSB, has been awarded a Fullbright Scholar grant to lecture at the University of Montenegro’s Institute of Marine Studies next academic year. The announcement was made by the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

In Montenegro, McGinnis will teach graduate courses in ocean and coastal management and assist in the development of future coastal and marine programs for the country and the greater Adriatic Sea region.

McGinnis, acting director of the Ocean and Coastal Policy Center at UCSB, earned a Ph.D. in political science at the university in 1993. He teaches in the school’s Environmental Studies program, the political science department, and the graduate school of Environmental Science and Management.

The Fulbright Scholar Program, operating in more than 150 countries, strives to build mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and the rest of the world.


Klein is Rotary president

Barbara Klein has been named president of the Rotary Club of Goleta Noontime for 2007-08.
A member of the group about eight years, she chaired the 2007 Goleta Fireworks Festival committee and has worked on numerous projects including the Fun Run, Goleta Teen of the Year, Rotary Fiesta and Rose Parade floats, Lemon Festival, Goleta Depot Day, and Career Day and Vocational Week at local schools.

SB accounting firm buys Goleta office building

One of Santa Barbara’s biggest accounting firms has purchased an office building near the Camino Real Marketplace.

Walpole & Co. bought the 11,880-square-foot building at 70 Santa Felicia Drive. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The firm plans to move into the building in September.
